Hello, my name is Vicky Arrowsmith. I am a fully qualified City and Guilds Beauty and Holistic Therapist with over 10 years experience. I am a registered Member of Associated Beauty Therapists Ltd.
After working in Customer service roles in the City, I'd wanted a complete change of career for some time and had always been interested in Hair and Beauty. I enrolled with Phoenix School of Health and beauty started training on a Saturday school in 2002 Beauty Therapy Level 2 with Louise.
I left my job in the city and my first job after qualifying was part time as a therapist at Synergy Salon in Brentwood whilst further studying at Phoenix for Level 3 Body Massage, Aromatherapy and Indian head and post graduate courses. I wanted to gain experience and speed in a salon but always knew I wanted to eventually work for myself at home.
I qualified for my Level 3 and worked at First steps for a short period and then started some mobile work. I also set up a room from home and built up a good client base over a few years. I had a career break for a few years in 2011 whilst having my children. In Nov 2015 I restarted my business from home working school hours and evenings which fits perfectly with my family life. I absolutely love my job and working for myself gives me such flexibility. Louise has been there for me every step of the way and most recently supporting me for refresher and post graduate courses.
Before Phoenix I worked as a Solicitor then left that to have a family. I began my beauty journey with a manicure and pedicure course at Phoenix which gave me the bug and led me to doing several other courses including gel polish, eye treatments, facials, massage and eye lash extensions. I trained both during the day and did an evening course taking my time and am now so happy with the way my career is progressing.
My name is Jo Poole, I have over 10 years of beauty experience including educating therapists and managing salons. From my experience I feel some aspects of the health and beauty industry can be difficult for a number of people to access, therefore thy are missing out on a great deal of the benefits it has to offer. In light of this I have set up a brand new home spa offering bespoke, high quality, value for money treatments.
Salon treatments at non salon prices!
I am based at my home in Braintree in a large , spacious downstairs room over looking fields, trees and parkland. There is on road parking close to the house. I offer a variety of treatments as listed with additional treatments listed below and I'm always on the look out and keen to add new and exciting ones too!
Threading, definition brows, body polish, deep tissue massage with infra red, lash lift, callus peel & IBX nail repair
I began my training at phoenix in 2006 , at the time I was working full time as a secondary science teacher and Head of year. I started doing my L2 City and Guilds Beauty Therapy qualification as a bit of a hobby. I soon realised I had a real passion for the industry and thoroughly enjoyed working as a therapist at home. I then had my two boys and dropped down the number of days I was teaching in school and picked up my beauty at home more. I then returned to Phoenix to under take City and Guilds L3 qualifications in Reflexology, Massage and Indian Head Massage as well as diplomas in Hopi ear candles, Crystal Healing, Spray Tanning and eyelash extensions. As much as I loved being at home I missed the company and the sense of being part of a team so I became employed as a salon manager in Dunmow. I am now also on the education team at phoenix and am currently teaching Aroma massage. I now have the best of everything, working from home, Teaching and working in salon. Making the change over to beauty is by far one of the best things I have done. Its a career I thoroughly enjoy, am passionate about and works well around my family. The enthusiasm, support and encouragement from all of the staff at phoenix have defiantly made that transition easier and has been partly responsible for my continued drive to learn new things and explore new avenues and treatments within the industry.
I first became interested in Holistic Therapies whilst travelling in Asia and living in Hong Kong during the 1990's.
On returning to the UK, I qualified as a Reflexologist in 1995 with a Level 3 Diploma. I am a fully registered member of the Association of Reflexologists.
I work from my personal treatment room in Howe Street, near Chelmsford in Essex, but also offer a mobile service for those clients wishing to have treatments in the comfort of their own home. Some clients prefer this as they can continue to relax and let the healing continue rather than driving home.
I also offer Indian Head Massage as an additional treatment
I loved every minute at Phoenix meeting like minded people and learning new treatments. My aim is to escape factory work and become a full time therapist.
My business, Mother Nature`s Barn was created so I can offer people holistic treatments and a place where I can teach meditation. My husband and I converted a barn on the farm into a space of comfort and serenity. Bringing together like-minded people and harnessing the collective energy generated through group meditations help to create a calm, healing and nurturing environment. I believe everything that happens in our life brings us to exactly where we need to be. I feel that I am now at a place in my own life where I can help other people, based on what I have learnt and experienced. My USP is that I can help people with their mind and body. Our minds control our bodies, so if I am able to help anyone create a peaceful mind, this will help them in the long run. I also love what I do, so I am passionate in my practice.
About 15 years ago I enrolled on an evening massage course at Phoenix. After completing the course I was offered a job at Phoenix as an assistant trainee. My job was very varied and Phoenix was growing, so I learnt a lot about the industry and business. I ended up working at Phoenix for many years, Louise took me under her wing and I continued to train, completing many courses over the years. Directly before enrolling on the evening massage course I was travelling around Australia. When I returned I wanted to start a career that I enjoyed. Doing what you love as a job was important to me. So I did! When I decided to gain my teaching qualification, Phoenix once again supported me with my training and gave me the required experience. My training journey with Phoenix will never be over as there will always be something else to learn!
Following the completion of my Reflexology training at Phoenix Training School in 2010, I have extended my knowledge and am now fully trained to practice Hopi Ear Candling and Indian Head Massage. Whilst setting up my business, I have continued to study and now specialise in Fertility , Pre-Conception and Maternity Reflexology, plus Hot Stone Reflexology, Reflexology Lymph Drainage, Facial Reflexology and Foot Reading and a number of reflexology workshops. See treatments and workshop pages for more information.
The variety of treatments I offer are all suitable alongside conventional medicine and may help to relieve stress and tension and promote a sense of personal wellbeing. I am happy to discuss my treatments and their benefits with you and will work with you to decide on the most suitable treatment for your individual needs.
I am a member of the following professional bodies and as such, I am required to meet and maintain their professional standards and codes of conduct.
• Association of Reflexologists (AOR)
• Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT)
• Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC)
Following taking voluntary redundancy from a career I had for 28 years, I looked for something new. I attended an information evening at Phoenix in 2009 and signed up for a reflexology course immediately. I qualified in 2010 and have not looked back. I have gone on to build a successful complementary therapy business, providing mobile complementary therapy treatments and workshops in your home or workplace, or at treatment rooms at 5StarPampering in Brentwood and TheNestingPlace in Chelmsford.
I was made redundant from a Motor Insurance role in oct 2016, I wanted a change and myHusband offered to pay for a course in massage as I had always wanted to do something like that , I elected to do the Diploma in Holistic Therapies as this gave me more than one discipline to offer when i qualified. I suffer with Fibromyalgia and I will admit after the first few weeks I did question my logic as I hurt more and was so tired, but as the course progressed and I got better at where and what I should do, Sam the Tutor devised ways for me to tackle the massage so it didn't cause me to much pain I began to feel much much better and became much more resilient- I passed in July with Distinction Indian Head was a Merit but I loved everything, I hadn't thought I'd be able to do this and I love offering the treatments and seeing others benefit from receiving the. I loved it so much I have now added Reflexology to my skill set.
Before I started at Phoenix I had no children, was working in a pub with no real balance to my life, life was dull.....
At the start the paperwork overwhelmed me and I thought I had no way of completing this it was about to be another failure in life ...
Working with Phoenix was very organised welcoming and like a family the owner louise was very approachable and that’s something I have not come across before.
I finally found myself and Louise made me realise no matter how many hurdles you face or how much you struggle with the normal reading writing and general understanding she would a way to make it work for me and it did...... the best result I got from Phoenix was finding my inner confidence and perfecting hands on treatments rather than thinking I could never achieve it -louise did that for me.
